Louise, barely staying afloat on child support and government assistance, is wrestling with her HMO to receive care for her youngest daughter. Harry, a wheelchair-user since childhood, is a brilliant but reclusive college student, who happens to be an expert at navigating the American health care system. They meet in a crowded emergency room. The relationship that follows provides them the solace they need to confront their deepest fears. Pyretown begs the question: When faced with our own limitations, does our ability to adapt ultimately depend upon the compassion of others?
