Power Street Theatre invites you to a sneak peek behind the scenes event: A staged reading of SILUETA (working title) a new musical with the story by Power Street’s own Erlina Ortiz.

Inspired by the life and work of Cuban-American performance artist, Ana Mendieta, SILUETA follows the unlikely friendship of two women who have been ripped by their roots and planted in New York City. Plagued by the ghosts of their past, Xiomara (a Cuban-American refugee) and Ishtar (a Syrian refugee) struggle to find meaning, laughter and what it means to be a family away from home in the wake of growing tensions and rising anti-immigrant sentiment highlighted by the 2016 presidential campaign.

When? Saturday, February 1st at 6pm

Where? Teatro Esperanza (4261 N 5th St, Philadelphia, PA 19140)

Erlina has been hard at work with two amazing collaborators; Lyricist Eloise Govedare and Composer Aleksandra Weil discovering these characters and creating the music for their lives.

“We’ve been writing just the three of us for a year since our last public reading (and two years before that), and this will be the first time we have a full draft from beginning to end. Musicals are so fun and hard! I’m really excited to show what we’ve been working on “ – Erlina Ortiz
